Over the years, I bought many cookbooks and NOW have access to cooking videos. I feel more confident now that I can actually visualize and hear the cook while they are cooking as opposed to just following the book alone. Any good basic cooking tips/ hints for a novice? What advice would you give to a lady who is embarking on a journey to learn how to cook?
lets see. when I first got married I only knew to make like Kraft mac %26amp; cheese and any HB helper you can name. If you can read you can cook.
My Mother worked and it was up to me to make dinner for my siblings (yeah, I'm the oldest)
There are so many things i could tell you.
First find a recipe you wanna try. Make it that way the first time, then figure out what you would like to change the next. NEVER be afraid to try new things.
If you ever need to ask a question, people here are happy to help (at least most of them)
Watch foodnetwork if you can, I gotta tell you, a lot of inspiration for new things come from there.
And mostly, don't look at it like a chore. Cooking is an art and should be anticipated and not dreaded.
Good sharp knives and cooking utensils are not sneezed at either LOLWhat advice would you give to a lady who is embarking on a journey to learn how to cook?
To be honest, the best advice I can give you is to find somebody who loves cooking and hang around them like a bad smell! The way all really good cooks learn, is by watching and copying others. See if you can find some short classes locally. Sometimes people will do Italian cooking classes for 6 weeks or whatever.
Do you know the basics, like how to boil an egg? Can you cook rice and pasta? If you can do those you are well on your way. The best thing is to just try stuff. Experiment. Also read. read. read.
One advice,
Try having a 'cooks party' for a night, invite all your best girl pals and cook in front of them! talk like a professional chef on TV! ;) and don't be nervous about cooking. Take this as one stepping stone to deliciousness, you'll be one hot lady chef in no time.
culinary school!!
some community schools even offer culinary and cooking classes. some stores like williams sonoma and sur la table offer free classes too.
