What advice can you give someone who has an overeating disorder?

How can I overcome this problem? Don't say stop eating so much, because I already know that. I have this disorder because of my mother. Growing up she has always used food as comfort. I'm in my early 20's now, living with my boyfriend. I don't know what to do. I'm not extremely overweight. I'm 5'0'; and weight 130 lbs. Four years ago, when I graduated from high school I weighed 105 lbs. Some advice would be helpful, especially from those who have gone or are going through the same thing. What advice can you give someone who has an overeating disorder?
Try to think of it this way. Food is only here for us to survive. Food has evolved in a way that it seems as if food is only here for pleasure. It is not. Only for surviving. SO the next time you want to eat something or anytime you go to eat, remember this....';Ok, am I eating right now for pleasure or for survival';. This has helped me (when I can remember) It is very hard to stop eating when it is a lifetime habit. I have a problem with this too. I pig out on candy and snacks all day and still eat meals. But, I'm trying to get better. Also exercising a lot will help even if you eat alot. But just try the ';survival'; technique! I hope this helps! What advice can you give someone who has an overeating disorder?

eat when you are hungry stop when you are full do not eat when you are upset this is like an addiction after you train your body that you are no longer going to eat like that it will go back to normall and you wont crave or want to eat for comfort anymore
This sounds like a broken record probably but you need to seek help via a therapist. Basically what needs to happen is you will need to find a way to transfer behaviors from eating food to other more productive, less harmful outlets for comfort (like walking, writing, etc).
You may have a thyroid imbalance which can make you overeat and it can also make you NOT eat. It depends which way the thyroid imbalance goes. I would highly recommend you see a doctor or specialist, perhaps an endocrinologist. Your mother had it also so it's obviously genetic. However, vitamin deficiencies are often misdiagnosed as other health problems, i.e. depression is often a deficiency of your B vitamins AND magnesium. Most people and even doctors don't realize all the important jobs magnesium does in the body. I would also look at foods that could bring you the most vitamins when you eat. Try checking the internet for the ';super foods';. These are foods that pack the most vitamins and anti-oxidants. Also, I highly recommend the book called the Zone diet. It will teach you which foods have high glycemic index and which have low glycemic index. It is a very healthy way to balance WHAT you eat. It also gives you alot of knowledge about what foods do what in your body.
Did you that know your body does not stop ';developing'; until you are 21? I guarantee that if you look at the high school pictures of people who graduated 4, 5, 6 years ago you will find the majority of people have changed! You will continue to change too.

You said you have this disorder because of your mother; no I don't think so. Your overeating has nothing to do with your mother and everything to do with you.

It sounds to me as if you have your own body issues that you are struggling with. Are you really overweight or is that just your perception of yourself?

I recommend watching the TLC channel when they run the programs called ';The 750-pound Man'; or ';The Half-ton Man';. These are people with severe eating disorders and in some cases life threatening weight problems.

I'm 5'3 and weigh over 240lbs, I am classified as 'obese';I am the one that is extremely overweight, not you. Don't stop eating and make yourself sick. Eating is one of the pleasures of life that we were given but do get help. Talk to a professional someone who can get to the root of your problem.
