My best friend got a job at a call center in Kansas City, and I just got one in Abilene,TX. The one I will be working at is a boost mobile call center. What advice can you give me and my friend? What advice would you give someone just starting out at a call center?
To always have a pleasant voice and no matter what never raise your voice. If someone is screaming at you and you never raise your voice they tend to stop because most people feel bad to yell at someone that isn't yelling back. It also puts them at ease with someone being so pleasant that you are going to take care of any issue that they have and that you want to take care of it. Just let them vent cause that is usually all they need then first and foremost apologize for their inconvenience and then address the problem and let them know you are here just for them to fix this problem. I used to get tons of letters, emails and request to speak to my managers when I worked in a call center because I was so pleasant. Also VERY important, never say I don't know when you are asked a question you aren't sure about. The first time you say I don't know you have made yourself look incompetent and they pretty much won't listen to what you have to say after that. If you don't know the answer ask if the customer minds if you put them on hold just for a moment so you can get the correct answer to that question. Oh and always ask if they mind if you put them on hold, don't just say hold on. I hope this helps I am the Queen of great customer service. What advice would you give someone just starting out at a call center?
Don't take what people say to you personally. You're going to get called some nasty names probably every day. Try to stay positive and whatever you do, leave it at work. After you clock out don't take the bitter things people say to you into your home and your life. When people call call centers it's usually because they have a problem which means they're calling prepared to fight and yell so be ready for it! Oh and keep your cool, I one time called a call center with a problem and the woman I called was so upset with me that she hung up on me. Very unprofessional, I later called the manager and told them about the woman's actions and she was fired because of it.
