Any advice on what to do with a laptop that likes to overheat often?

It's getting really annoying. I've run scanners and can find nothing extra running but my laptop will over heat after 15-20 minutes and all I'll have running is my word processor. It's getting old. Fast. Any one got a clue?Any advice on what to do with a laptop that likes to overheat often?
Laptops tend to get warm after a bit of use, so it's pretty normal.

To see if your laptop is seriously overheating, try using some free online diagnostic tools that monitor CPU temperature and such. Your computer should register around 60 Degrees Celsius. If it's way over this value (around 80-100) you will need to get your laptop checked or buy a cooling pad.

There are many out there, but I recommend Everest Ultimate by Lavalys. It's a great diagnostic tool that not only tells you about core temperature, but hardware information and more. Check it out. I got it on a whim and it simply fascinates me. If you look around, you might be able to find a product key (Or message me *wink*)

To get to the Temperature information in this program, just go to Computer %26gt; Sensor.

Some suggestions I might have about your temperature problem are:

#1. Check that you are not blocking any of the fans/vents while you are using the laptop. This is a very simple but common mistake. I even put some thick cup coasters under my laptop (while on my desk) to make sure it has some extra ventilation.

#2. Dust out the fans/vents once in a while with one of those cans of AirDuster.

#3. Check whether the fan is even running!

#4. Do not use the CPU as intensively - run less programs at one time.Any advice on what to do with a laptop that likes to overheat often?
Its normal. Its naturally going to get hot since you use the laptop frequently, hence the reason for the cooling devices you can pick up from anywhere. Try to limit the programs that you run with the laptop, that will help with the temperature of the laptop battery. Good luck.
Make sure you can hear than fan running.

Try not cover all of the bottom of the computer, it needs ventilation from the bottom.

You should be able to go into the very basic functions to see what the temperature is running at and if it is safe.

Laptops do get very warm and need plenty of ventilation to cool down quickly.
First make sure you do not block the air/fan intake and exhaust vents if not using on a hard surface such as a desk or table.

I use a cooling pad with fans on both my lap tops and it helps greatly, they are not expensive and plug into a USB port. I like the ones with two adjustable fans (CoolPad2), another is Targus.

Check at: http://www.frys.com or any computer store.
clean fan and vents with canned air keep laptop on hard flat surface with good air flow
get a laptop cooling tray from any store
Buy a cooling pad to set it on
