What is the best advice you were ever given concerning dogs?

When you were starting out with your first dog, what what the best advice someone gave you? What is the best advice you were ever given concerning dogs?
My mentor told me never to think I know it all. If I ever do then someone will prove me wrong.

so that's what I have done. You never shut your mind off to learning new things, new ways of doing something old. Oh and never call your self an expert either. No one is truly an real expert in anything. What is the best advice you were ever given concerning dogs?
Thanks! She was a great lady, tough but fair. I miss her.

Never use violence or anger with your dog....you will just end up with a dog that is scared or will become violent and angry in return.

All of our dogs have been trained with love and patience and are all loving and loyal dogs that I wouldn't trade for anything.
Crate train from my vet after a very expensive surgery to remove a blockage from my lab/shepherd/JRT puppy after he ate a bucnh of stuff while I was at work. Wish someone had mentioned that before he ate a couch, two chairs, my passport, and a $300 leather jacket. lol!
It is easier for a human to think like a dog than it is for a dog to think like a human. From Cesar Millan about learning how to understand your dog. It's pretty crazy to think that a dog will think like we do and people treat them that way all of the time.
I was told to treat my dog like a dog, the animal in the dog an dnot like a human. The dog will thank you for it... sure enough, my dog is so happy being a dog.
Any mistakes a dog makes is in the fault of the person in charge of training them.
Stay calm, don't let him see fear, and take the dog to a training class!
Remember, he is a dog, not a baby. Given to me by my mother.
Best advice...dogs need boundaries and rules. And that he is a DOG...
Be confident and strong and your dog will listen.
No advice
To never buy a puppy from pet stores.
Get my dog spayed and why.
Train your dog and you will have no problems!
try to be the person your dog thinks you are
