Each year about a million Filipinos leave their home country to work across the world to support their families back home. What advice would help someone cope in this situiation? What is the most important thing for someone to know before going abroad on such a journey? What is the most important advice to give an OFW before they leave the Philippines?
Know your priorities. You will feel alone, homesick and who knows what crazy things you might do out there, just remember your priorities and stick to it. It can be pretty lonely in the first few months.
Working overseas is easy nowadays because of information technology, we can easily communicate with our loved ones that are back home.
For me, I think the most important things to do are:
Get a cellphone, you can use an international roaming sim (get a prepaid! and load up as much as you can - incoming texts are free anyway) for the meantime then you can switch to a foreign sim once you know which provider to use.
Look for the best call card to call the Philippines
Open a bank account - its easier and cheaper to remit money through banks. Plus your money is safer there.
Learn The local language of the country where you are headed.
And please dont bring the Filipino habits there:
Always be on time
Dont get yourself involved in office politics, because in my experience foreign employers look at you work performance and NOT rumors/gossips/office politics.
Work hard! show those foreign pips how GOOD a Filipino worker can be.
Remember , when you are in a foreign country only do things that will uplift/improve the image/perception of our country. What is the most important advice to give an OFW before they leave the Philippines?
Mabuhay ka kaibigan!
The first few months can be tough..... suggest finding fellow OFW's that have been there a while to help show you the ropes

For the guys, if you are planning to go to the middle east, be sure not to shave your beard or you'll get your butt in trouble. Literally :)
DTA!!
Don't Trust Anybody!!
magdasal ka... magtyaga ka at mahirap ang buhay sa ibang bansa!!!
check your contract and job , is it legal and existing employment
some company renegade or different existing contract when you arrive on destination, beware on job offering on middle east countries, those peole are not fair and legal toward their employment contract.
1. Do it legally.
2. Have some spare money.
3. Do not give your passport and other important documents to your employers.
4. Check if there are Filipinos in your area of destination.
5. Prepare your mind mentally, homesick is hard to overcome.
6. Go home when you feel you are being maltreated.
7. Pray
Be prepared for the loneliness and the hard work and the racism

Or any other antidepressant? It is cymbalta I take though. Been on the low dose a while this is my first day off it and I feel a pretty crappy.

Many thanks, I shall rate the best answer 5!Could anyone give me any advice for additional supplements for stopping cymbalta?
Take Omega 3 fish oil, high doses. Start low and increase every three days untilyou get a positive change. This helps with depression.
You can supplement according to what ';crappy means';. It would help to know that that is. I know that the fish oil is needed as the drug depletes the body of essential fatty acids.
There is a program that has different supplements. You can find them at www.theroadback.org. It works for some people.Could anyone give me any advice for additional supplements for stopping cymbalta?
the human body also produces stress hormones called cortisol. that is also one factor why we are also depressed sometimes and can get enough relaxation and sleep. i know one natural safe supplement which i also take. you can try pharmanex' cortitrol. but it can't be bought over the counter. i suggest you'll take this because in just one day, you'll feel the difference. you can email me for more information and for guideline in buying on line. please email me at aileengabriel27@yahoo.com. hope i can help. thanks and god bless
My doctor stopped me by taking 30mg every other day for 2 weeks. Nothing really works but time.

How do you and what advice can you give for negotiating payment of old debt?
I just looked at my credit report and although fairly good there are a couple of things from my marriage that I want to get cleaned up. The other person wont do it.Nonetheless. I know I can negotiate a lower pay off. Any advice?? Sample letters even?';:) Precentage that is fair? I really dont know where to start. How do you and what advice can you give for negotiating payment of old debt?
First, find out what the statue of limitations is in your state for debt. You can check the link below to find out.
http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/鈥?/a>
Those that our past the SoL you are safe from, as you no longer have a legal obligation to repay that debt. One trick I've heard of is to send these collection agencies a CMRRR (certified mail return receipt request) stating that the debt is past the SoL, but demanding that they validate the debt per the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act.
I've heard of people who have done this and the collection agencies simply give in and remove the listing, since they know it's past the SoL and they don't want to waste the time to validate.
As far as negotiating the debt, I'd start at 30% of the balance you owed (not including any interest and fees they have tacked on) and work from there. Make sure that in exchange for payment they delete the negative mark (not simply show it as paid) from your credit report and consider it paid in full.
Below are 3 links that you will find helpful. They include information on negotiation, pay for delete agreements and sample letters.

Start by going to the links Crazy gives you. That site is a commercial site but it's loaded with a lot of great FREE consumer advice.
Another stop is http://www.creditboards.com and read their forum messages.
I called and spoke with each of my credit card company and simply asked them to see how much they could lower my interest rate, With some you may have to speak with a supervisor, but generally you will get some results.
If you can, first search for a credit card with a long term low rate and a low balance transfer option. if your credit card providers do not want to lower your rate, then transfer the balance.
You don't say what these debts are but I was in a similar possition with credit cards that were in both our names but were exclusively his to use. I never used them but was stuck with them after the divorce. You can always wait for one of the transfer ads to come in the mail that has a lower interest rate or go to a debt management company to consolidate all your debts to one payment you can afford.

Hey, does anyone have any advice on what to do to become a good hip hop dancer?
I already have the moves but I want to be more flexible when I move. Are there any special shoes to wear, or any special floors that I should practice on?Hey, does anyone have any advice on what to do to become a good hip hop dancer?
The best thing to do is build your skills so that you can dance well under any circumstances. Try practicing in hip hop sneakers, such as Bloch brand, because they have shock absorbers and will help cushion your jumps. Stretch everyday and practice balance. Work on hand stands and head stands, as these will help with things like freezes and poses later. Do lots of crunches and push ups to build core and upper body strength. I recommend making a routine of these and stretches that you do every morning and night. It is easiest to dance on wood floors. I would recommend practicing things you learn in class as well as dances. Try working on your freestyle by just making up your own combos and moves.
I hope I helped! Good luck and have fun ( :Hey, does anyone have any advice on what to do to become a good hip hop dancer?

What are some tips or advice for being more frugal with money?
I make a decent income, I鈥檓 not wealthy by any means, but I should have more in the way of savings than I do. I guess I鈥檓 in need of a good pep talk to curtail my needless spending. What are some tips or advice for being more frugal with money?
Stop going to those strip clubs and waving all those $1's I saw you there so don't lie. start bring the club to you ;-)What are some tips or advice for being more frugal with money?
The best advice l will give you is learn to pay yourself first and the second bit of advice is learn to save10% of your income each month so if you earn a $1000 dollars save $100 dollars over a year this mounts up into a nice sum which you can invest to make you more money.
Being aware of your spending habits helps to see where it will bring you if you keep spending that way and motivate you to improve your spending habits and elminate needless spending.
I use CalendarBudget to track my spending habits and I can look into the future to see how much money will be in my account depending on how much I spend. Delete the unnecessary expenses like movie out (get a movie in instead - fraction of the price) then see where that will bring you in your future.
Check out the blog for other spending or money management tips.
Stop paying exorbihant coffee prices, at........
Stop paying $8.00 per gallon for bottled water.
Hi i know the feeling, every now and again i need a pep talk about money or the lack of it. I have lived on a fairly tight budget for some time and find that living more simply a really easy way to cope with the fact that i can't splash out on all the things which are always being thrown at us via advertising. I try to live fairly frugally which makes me feel good about myself and how little i waste, plus most of the time i feel really satified with what i have and am always surprised at what i can get so cheaply when i take the time to really shop around. good luck and best wishes.
Do not buy coffee at 3 and 4 dollars a cup.
Don't spend money on bottled water
Carry lunch instead of buying.
If you smoke, quit and this is a big saver.
Spend less on clothes
Shop sales for grocery's and other expenses
Trim electric bills by being mindful of what turned on that could b off
Turn heat and AC down.
Wash full loads both washer and dishwasher.
Being frugal can be fun. You'll think of more as you go along.
Set up a realistic budget. Writing down everything you spend money on for a two week period will give you an idea of where you are wasting moeny.
Check on your regular bills. Look for ways to cut. For example, on your phone bill: do you really need call waiting, call forward or similar extra fee services? How about that line maintenance fee? Even if it does cost $90/hour to fix inside wiring, it cheaper than paying that fee. You can cut $15+ easily from your phone bill.
Groceries: plan menus using the grocery sale ads. Make a list and only buy what's on the list. Stay away from convenience foods -- making from scratch is cheaper and taste a lot better.
Put a set amount into a savings account every payday.
when you use your debt card paperclip the receipts to your card till you get home. also have some of your check-20.00 directly deposit to your saving
Keep an Excel spreadsheet of your daily spending and break it down to what you spend it on. It's amazing how fast it adds up. You can then make cuts on what you feel is not needed.
Every week take a certain amount out of your paycheck %26amp; put it in savings. Do this 1st every week before anything else. If the check is larger one week, take more out. Leave yourself enough for what you need. Food, gas, groceries. %26amp; a little for spending. A little. %26amp; don't use credit cards, use cash. You won't spend as much when you pay in cash.
#1 - Leave the credit cards at home..Or get rid of them altogether.
#2 - Dont eat (or drink) out. Or movies, or other expensive hobbies
#3 - If you smoke, quit.
#4 - Carry a ledger at all times and write down what you spend.
#5 - Dont buy what you dont need.
Force yourself to save by having a deposit into a 401K or IRA before you get your check. Have it taken out by your company.
I have some advice..
1- When recording your expenditures in your checkbook, round up to the nearest dollar, or 5 dollar increment, even if its only 1.98 that you spend. This makes balancing your checkbook easier, and also leaves your account with a little extra money in it.. A fast and easy way to actually save money, without thinking or worrying too much about it.
2- Buy generic brands, whenever possible. Especially when it comes to buying food- you can get the expensive spaghetti noodles, or the cheap ones. They both have about the same stuff in them, and taste the same, so save a buck and get the cheaper store brand. I get a 16 oz box of thin spaghetti from publix for 70c, about once or twice a month. The name brand, on the other hand, costs almost 2 bucks. Ridiculous!!
3- Cook at home.. Even if you are a ';bad cook';, you can buy a recipe book. There are loads of recipes out there that any fool can make, that dont take much time or preparation, or even ingredients. It also might help you to watch cooking shows sometimes, to get tips on how to amplify the flavor in your food, without amplifying the calories and fat. Cooking your own food will save you a fortune! Set one day of the week that you go out to eat, and spoil yourself that day, even if it is all day long. All these things will help your finances, and maybe even your shape.
4- Track your spending. Every time you spend money, write it down on a little pad of paper, what you bought and how much it cost, how much time you spent at the place, etc. This can help you to see where you spend the most time and money, and you might be able to give yourself more financial structure by only allowing a certain amount of time per week at any given place. (like if you go to the bar.. leave home later, and leave the bar earlier. That can save a person hundreds of dollars a month, if they are big drinkers)
5. Plan on saving close to the equivalent of every big occassional expense, every month. So, if you buy a new I-Pod, be sure that you have the same amount of dollars to put into savings too, or at least half. You will need to open a savings account, if you haven't already. Another good idea, is to use a Roth IRA. That kind of retirement plan is hard to withdraw from, until youre 55, and you can plan on putting a set amount every month into it. Oh and dont buy anything that you cant pay off on the credit card the following month. Those fees really add up.
6- Drive used cars, not new ones.. A new car loses its value at something like 10 miles, so basically driving it home, it loses thousands of dollars in worth. Imagine having a car accident just months after buying a new car.. then youre upside down on the payments. No fun. Just buy a certified pre owned car, instead, and save your hard earned dinero for the gas!! Gas is up next...
7- Gas- Well gas is not cheap. There are ways of curbing your fuel expenses.. if you can carpool, do it at least once a week. Take the bus, or even ride a bicycle to work, sometimes, if you can do this. If you go to the convenience store, and it is close, try walking or rollerblading over there. Just saving 20 dollars or 30 dollars a month on fuel will add up over a year.. 30 dollars multiplied by 12 is 360 bucks. Thats a lot of money!!! You could buy a reasonably nice suit with that! You could go on a mini vacation with that kind of money.
8- Have a garage sale, before you chuck all that stuff out. If you cant sell it, or its not sellable, post an ad on craigslist.com or freecycle (yahoo groups) and give it to someone in need. Joining groups like that is really great because you give the crap you dont like and cant sell, away to people who want it, and can use it, and you can also get all kinds of freebies, too, from other participants.
9- Eco-friendly your home. Weather stripping, tinting your windows, planting trees, rain cystines, putting a pond or fountain in the yard, all can help to curb your utility bills. There is even a way of getting free power, if you arent too close to sea level- by the use of large copper coils in the ground- and those cost less than it would cost to power your home for 5 years, so its totally worth it. You would be amazed how much money you can save by simply doing some cheapie stuff around the house. Storm windows and doors are also great to have, too!
10- Above all else- work to live, dont live to work. Dont let money run your life. Let your money be the passageway TO a healthy and happy life. All the best!!
What type of unsafe food advice runs around on Thanksgiving that makes you cringe?
Every time I hear someone say to speed thaw a turkey by putting it in the sink and running warm or tepid water on it, I want to scream.
Ditto about leaving meat out on the counter to thaw overnight.
This is playing culinary russian roulette, but people sadly swear by it and recommend it to others.

What are some tips and advice I should know before getting my first tattoo?
Besides the obvious things: making sure that I really wouldn't mind having that design on me for the rest of my life and making sure that the tattoo artist is good at that specific kind of tattoo that I will be getting.
I've been thinking about this for 4 plus years and finally have decided to go through with it. I have the design that I want but want to full research this and get some good advice before finalizing it.
Any and all advice would be appreciated! Thanks! What are some tips and advice I should know before getting my first tattoo?
Eat %26amp; drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, take a drink and snack with you while you're in there getting the tattoo.
Make sure you've checked out the artist's portfolio thoroughly to make sure that you''re not going to get a crappy tattoo that you're going to be stuck with (you should see my friend's...teehee). Price should not matter at all when you pick the artist. Is sounds like you've got that one down though ; )
Keep in mind too that the bigger you go with a tattoo, the more detail the artist can put into it. You've already decided to get it permanently on your body, so make sure the quality is excellent. Don't sell yourself short for something that looks like a 5-year-old could have drawn.
Also, make sure you check to see what lengths the shop goes to for sterilization.
Have fun! I hope I helped.
-SamWhat are some tips and advice I should know before getting my first tattoo?
theres only a few things you need to be sure of before you go.
make sure you have a filling meal and drink plenty of water. since its your first one you'll probably be nervous, and being nervous and hungry while getting stabbed with needles would more then likely lead to passing out.
also make sure that the shop youre going to is clean and the artist your going to has alot of experience. you don't want to go somewhere that is dirty cause it could lead to infection. and if the artist you go to is new theres always a chance he could stab too deep and it could cause problems healing.
also if youre getting it somewhere that is covered with clothes make sure you wear loose fitting clothes and theyre soft just incase the bandages move for some reason.
hope that helps!
Your time is overdue. Four years is enough. Get the darn thing and enjoy it...I have a new one (admist all my other one's) and there is really no time but the present. Make sure you have the colors picked out (if any) and make sure of the size, and of course make sure that the tattoo artist has done something like your tattoo before, he/she should have a book of their art work present for you to look at...or else come to edmonton...we have a group of real artists.
Your 1st answerer nailed it. Tattoos look like hell, especially after they start to blotch and fade. At that point you'll realize tattoos are for truck drivers and want it removed. So I advise you to make sure there's a good dermatologist in your area.
Mostly what everyone has covered like making sure you have enough rest and a meal before you go through it. Also to make really sure the tattoo artist is good at the kind of tattoo you want. (i.e Oriental, black and grey etc).
Good luck
Like everyone else mentioned, make sure you eat and drink enough before getting it.
Afterwards, be sure to wear white closest to it that way colours won't ruin it, and be sure to keep it very very clean and moist.
EAT before hand...I had my 1st tattoo and passed out because of me being nervous and not eating at all that day...the artist had to stop and get me something to drink cause I was so dehydrated.
My advice? Don't do it!!

What is the best poker advice you have for me?
I am planning on starting an online poker account with $50-$100 playing mainly Omaha and NLH. I was wondering what good advice you guys had and any references before I get started. What is the best poker advice you have for me?
There are sites that will give you free money usually $50 to play with. http://www.pokerstrategy.com/uIVQI3 is such a site they provide strategy articles, videos and live coaching sessions. It is free to join and they also provide a free $50 to start providing you can pass their poker quiz. If you are serious about getting good then this is an ideal place to start. They also offer rakeback as well. Their coaches are big winners in the online games.
however they do not accept US players you can try http://www.freepokercash.org for more free cash providers that do accept US players.
If you still want to deposit your own money then get rakeback, it's basically poker cashback on your play you can also get access to freerolls, try http://www.onlinerakeback.netWhat is the best poker advice you have for me?
I personally dont like online play. All to often 2 people at the same table have good hands. It creates a bigger pot therefore the website gets a bigger rake. Especially in ohama.
I would recomend checking out various websites to see which is most reputable.
Besides that I would say watch your betting patterns. People may discern what you have by how you bet the last time around. Change it up.
I would also muck your cards after winning a hand instead of showing them. The less information they have the better. Occassionally I will show but only when I am trying to confuse them.
Good luck.
Never be afraid to ask questions and learn from people that may be better at playing poker than you.

What was the worst parenting advice you received from someone?
And what was the best?
Was there anyone that you hung on their every word, or someone that you pretended to listen to but thought they were full of it?What was the worst parenting advice you received from someone?
WORST ~ when a child acts up, have them stand in the corner with full cans in their hands, holding them at shoulder-height, repeating ';What would Jesus do ?'; until they beg to stop.
Two alarming things :
1) LAME
2) I can almost guarantee that Jesus wouldn't hold up cans as self-penance.
BEST~My Mom, encouraging me not to fall victim to the ';Cat's in the Cradle'; syndrome like she had to.
Full of it?
My MIL. My brain is on auto-pilot about 95 % of the time when she babbles on, especially with anything concerning my SD, who has been her special project and her golden child for the last 18 years.
Recently confirmed is the fact that my SD is far from golden~What was the worst parenting advice you received from someone?
The best was how to handle Nick. Do you remember Nick? I posted about him a few times. He's the cruddy, bossy, mean friend of my son's, which, thanks to the people here, they are apart. Also Bosox with her four-wheeling advice. Never forgot that one.
I get bad advice all the time, but I forget what they are because I tune them out. They're ususally offset by some great people, so that's the part I remember.
I don't know if I hang on every word, but sometimes I sit around waiting for what Des has to say on something. Our kids are the same age, she also has a special needs child, and well, she is level headed. Oh and Wordnerd and Butscratch too, but that's just because they crack me up. They're usually not that helpful.
Having eight kids (or even back when we had four or five) parents with one or two very well behaved kids would attempt to offer advice about organization, behavior, etc. I usually just pretended to listen but didn't take any of it seriously because they had no idea what it was actually like to take care of a large family.
As far as the best advice, having a schedule actually written out is great for me and for the older kids to know what is coming next. As far as organization and whatnot, the label maker is my BFF.
The worst: I guess that would be the old ';crying is good for their lungs.';
The best: ';You are her mom. You know her best. You make the choices you think are best for her.'; (Of course it goes without saying, but it was nice to hear this when I was a new mommy.)
I tend to value the advice of my brother and his wife because they are excellent parents who have researched a lot of issues, but I don't do everything they did. My stepsister's advice goes in one ear and out the other.
My grandfather told me when my son had a tooth coming in, I should take a knife and cut the gum line right above the tooth a little. He said it would relieve the pressure and make it less painful.
Needless to say, I never did that.
Best advice, don't sweat the small stuff. My MIL tells me that on a daily basis.
Fortunately, I haven't had a whole lot of people telling me what to do and how to do it in regards to my son.
Worst advice: When my daughter was 2 weeks old my husband's aunt who is an older nurse told me to replace one feeding a day with an 8 oz. bottle of water. Um, no.
Best advise: Always trust your instincts. I brought my daughter to the ER one time because I couldn't shake the feeling that she was sick with more than just a little cold. She had a slightly runny nose, no fever and wasn't fussy but I wanted to make sure. Turns out she was in the early stages of pneumonia. Because she was treated so early it never got serious. I was so happy I trusted my own instincts that day.
The worst I ever heard was: ';My dad beat the crap out of me and I turned out fine';
There was someone, I believed everything she said to the point I didn't even think about it. And I shouldn't have done that. Because she was wrong.
worst: substitute water for formula/breast milk because sometimes they are just thirsty
best: it's ok to put the baby down and let him cry for a minute if you are at your wits end and need a break for a few minutes to collect yourself
Using key words as opposed to no all the time. Hot, stop, danger, ETC..
I think most parents and people are full of it.
the best advice is don't sweat the small stuff
the worst advice was to not get my daughter vaccinated
worst- let him cry for up to a half hour before you check on him
best- sleep when baby sleeps, really important lol

What is the most important advice you would give about homeschooling?
From those experienced homeschoolers, what is something you've learned about the lifestyle that you would like pass on to others? What is the most important advice you would give about homeschooling?
That is a really tough question.
Most of us when we first start out have these great idea's, and expectations; then come the children and put it all upside down.
They have different idea's, learning styles, and personalities.
My advice would be take it slow, relax stick to the basics; math reading, and writing, and if life gives you a twist, and turn that needs attending too; put the books on the shelf for that time.
Later as you see that your approach to home schooling is progressing well, add some history, or science, but do it with lots of hands on projects, games, and field trips.
Observe, and find out their likes, and dislikes.
Are they morning, or afternoon children? pick their peak times to do some ';schooling';.
If they are out of sorts, use reading aloud, and video's/DVDs instead of book, or worksheets.
Not doing math in a math book, or completing a worksheet for a day or two is not going to make a difference; let them do math on the computer with games like Math Blasters, Clue Finders, Star Wars, or Carmen San Diego.
It truly is a life style, and learning happens all day, it has no set hours, an assigned ';school room'; or ';desk';.
Use every occasion, or encounter as an opportunity to teach/learn.What is the most important advice you would give about homeschooling?
Relax. Make it fun. Know when to just be Mom or Dad and enjoy each others company. Be a family primarily, let learning fit into that mold. Don't structure family around school.
It is critically important to my spouse and I to have a supportive network of friends who are also homeschooling. This allows us to discuss any concerns we have, laugh and share the ups and downs of taking this road less traveled.
We have also learned that our children learn in huge leaps, then plateau. We found switching approaches and focusing on a different topic periodically helps us stop worrying about the plateaus and keeps things interesting.
I would have said ';be flexible'; but someone already expressed that sentiment...
So, I will add, Get Involved. Get yourself and your child(ren) involved with your local homeschool support group, join clubs, go to dances, do community service.
If something is not available in your area, create the opportunity yourself.
*** UPDATE:
I'm glad you used the word ';lifestyle'; because it really is more than just a way of teaching and learning... it is a lifestyle.
I just graduated High School as a homeschool student. I was homeschooled for about 7 years. The best advice I have is to be structured. It helps a lot.
Examine what's out there as best as you can and make wise choices, augement with unschooling, field trips and other activities.
Parents should quiz their kids on the days learning. Open one of their books and ask a question.
Of course they should do that for brick schoolers too, but don't!
Make sure you are enjoying it. If you're not enjoying it most of the time (we all have our days where we'd like to throw in the towel), then it's a clue that something's wrong somewhere: the approach, your expectations, your needs, the kids' needs, something. When things get frustrating for more than a few days around here, I know it's time for me to sit down and chat with the kids about what they would like, what their vision is, share with them what I would like and work out a reasonable plan together.
Also, put your relationship with your children above the academics. I've seen homeschooling families give up because they were so focused on the academics, they neglected to take care of the parenting or the parent-child relationship. That relationship is important regardless of where the child does his/her schooling, but it will make or break a homeschooling experience. (I am NOT saying to not do academics; I'm saying they need to come in second.)
Be flexible. Do your research, make your plan, but realize that there will be bumps in the road and be willing to work with them.
Each child is different, and each family is different. The point of homeschooling is to design an education that is right for that child, for that family, that will prepare them for their future. However, kids don't come with manuals...and their needs change over time. It is important to be willing to change gears (or curriculums, or lesson plans, or schedules) when the need arises - it really is ok to do so :-)
I wish someone had told me this when we first started - it would have meant much less stress on my part and fewer tears on my child's part that first year! I wouldn't trade homeschooling my son for anything though...when I see the growth, the love for learning, and the enthusiasm in his eyes, every minute is worth it.
Don't rush into it-- ease into it. Don't worry about losing time. Don't worry about arbitrary concepts like grades or ';ahead'; or ';behind'; or the quantity of worksheets your child is churning out in a day.
Just as you pointed out, it is a lifestyle. It takes time to adapt, particularly if your child has been in school. You don't need to race out and purchase an expensive curriculum which might end up causing a great deal of frustration and gathering dust. You don't need to create a mini-school at home and play teacher and expect your child to sit quietly all day with their hands folded at the table and you write out notes on a chalk board and have them raise their hand to ask questions.
I say just start getting used to being at home together and engage in a variety of activities, in and out of the house. Incorporate studies slowly and as needed, rather than just to mirror school.
don't be too up-tight or incorporate too much busy work. that makes it practically public school.
Start early!!!!!! Humans learn more and faster the younger they are. I am a firm believer in Home schooling . The biggest mistake I think most make is not starting soon enough. If you can teach them ';potty training'; There is no reason why you can't start teaching them other things like numbers and letters.
Also don't forget that even games can teach. Keep them interested in learning by making it fun instead of some chore. Don't let other people cause you to doubt your own abilities or responsibility. It's the parents responsibility to teach their children not the state's. Just because you don't know a subject now doesn't mean you can't learn it as your teaching your children.
be a self starter
Breathe and breathe some more
Take a more relaxed approach to teaching and learning
Follow your Child's lead on where their interests lie
Allow them to be creative
Allow them to explore and learn thru trial and error
Take time out of each day to just do nothing
Have fun and play
Laugh and love
Sit back and observe your child
Enjoy and take in every moment as you will never get time back again
Remember if you start to lose your patience go to the bathroom, breathe, pray, and take a little time out for yourself before taking or approaching the situation
Let your child see you reading, read to them, expose them to books this way they will grow up with a love of reading.
Teach the 3 R's and everything else is just bonus.
Don't overload your child with several extracurricular activities because you feel it is the only socialization they will get. Let them pick one activity and enjoy. They will get to socialize thru everyday life with people of all ages.
Let everything you do in everyday life whether you are taking a drive in the car, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc be a learning experience for your child.
The world is your playground.
Most importantly just enjoy being with your child and don't be in a rush to try to keep up with the Jones.
I have home schooled my son since kindergarten and he is now in second grade. The best advice I can give is set up routines and follow them. You can go to FlyLady.net and get some great journals to help you get organized even a student control journal. I gave my son a calendar for his extra activities and he is 7. I also have his no school days marked and try to have him have the same holidays as the school. Best of luck.
A great advantage in homeschooling is that text books are usually not needed ( with some exceptions, most people use math textbooks). We find lots of interesting books at the library for what we are studying, it makes it a lot more interesting, and fun!
The biggest caution I can give you as an ex 3rd %26amp; 4th grade teacher is::::::::be as scheduled as any school would be and don't make excuses for poor work from your child. Those were the two biggest things that caused homeschooled kids to be behind public school in education. I saw the majority of homeschooled kids that came into the private school I taught at testing as far as 2 years behind other kids their age. It had nothing to do with the child's ability--their parents were lax about schedules at home, did not monitor the child's output carefully and accepted below capability level work rather than making the child do it correctly. They did other things all around the home while school was going on and sent the signal to the kids that the business of the day was NOT school. You have to be 3 times as hard on yourself as a teacher in the home as you would ever be on your child. When they know that YOU are VERY serious about their education, they will be too. It can be done completely successfully if you hold your own self to the mark.
my best advice is not to
That is a really tough question.

Can anyone give me any advice about preparing a portfolio to apply a Fashion Design course at a university?
What types of drawings should I include?
Does it differ from applying for a Foundation year?
And if you are a into Fashion design, any other tips concerning the course, universities or the job will be appreciated :)Can anyone give me any advice about preparing a portfolio to apply a Fashion Design course at a university?
No it doesn't differ that much from a Foundation year except that the portfolio should show that you have done/are interested in Fashion. Here's how to do it.
Put all your general work in a pile and then separate it into categories. Life drawing one pile, style sheets another, photos another, finished work in another etc.etc.. Then pick two or three of the best from each pile. Don't do quantity, do quality.
That will do for your general portfolio. then pick two to four projects and assemble all the work including sketchbooks that went into the project. Look at the pile, count how much, at a minute a sheet it would take half an hour to get through 30 sheets so try to cut it down.
Make sure that everything is presented cleanly but don't take half a ton of mounting card. Try to show the briefs to each project and the written feedback. Include some written work and always, always your sketchbooks.
They will want evidence that you can write, draw and organise yourself, they won't want to take on people who need basic English or only do text talk. They love sketchbooks, it shows the persons thinking. Don't decorate your portfolio, keep the layout neat simple and clean. Make it easy to get through. Assume that you won't be allowed to take them through the portfolio and you won't go far wrong. No way do they want to be talked through it. That takes ages. If your granny can understand by the order its presented and the labelling what it is shes looking at then the tutors will also.
They are interested in where you get your ideas from, how organised you are, that your skills are up to working at Uni, and that your work is interesting. By cutting down the volume of work the quality will go up. By presenting well your confidence will go up. when you've completed get a couple of tutors to look.
A word of warning - no way should you include old work from School, it's not relevant. Even if your A level took ages, it's the freer Foundation stuff they will want. hope that helps.

How can I get legal advice or report that the law has been broken relating to the execution of a will?
A will and trust has not been executed as it should have been. The state is NC. Who can I report this too so it will be investigated. How can I get legal advice or report that the law has been broken relating to the execution of a will?
The execution of a will is a civil matter unless fraud was involved. In the absence of fraud, there is no agency that will investigate the matter.
If you were an interested party (creditor, heir, beneficiary under previous version), you need to talk to an attorney. If the document was improperly executed, you may be able to challenge it in court. How can I get legal advice or report that the law has been broken relating to the execution of a will?
If the execution affected you personally, you can sue the executor. If the execution didn't affect you personally, then you lack standing to sue. If your county has a Registrar of Wills, that might be a good place to start.
Seek and pay another lawyer. They are just waiting to take more of the inheritance away from fools.
Start with your county seat (courthouse). If you get no resolve there then contact your state attorney general.
You can get free legal advice on websites like LawGuru, FindLaw. Check this out for more info http://www.uelp.org/freelegal.html

What is the worst parenting advice you have ever received?
I have been given a lot of parenting advice over the years and have even tried some of the suggestions. I have since learned to just trust my own instincts. What I want to know is what is the worst or craziest advice you've ever been given, and did you try it?What is the worst parenting advice you have ever received?
hehehe, I get so much bad advice all the time! But the ones that always take the cake come from my MIL. For instance, keep a baby in a playpen all day without picking them up and never let them learn to crawl so that they are easier to manage, only let them out when they have learnt to stand and walk and knock the playpen over! Can you believe that!!! Or how about, tying a toddler into a cot to stop them throwing the bed clothes off so that you don't need to have heating going all night. I think that she was lucky that laws were so lenient 40 odd years ago. With some of the things older women have told me to do, its a wonder any of us made it out of childhood alive! haha. What is the worst parenting advice you have ever received?
';Never trust your children. They're always up to no good.';
I've recieved NUMEROUS pieces of advice when it comes to parenting from all kinds of people...but this quote was probably the worst comment I ever heard.
I was at my 8yr son's football game this past fall and I was talking to a women next to me. She has a older son the same age as my oldest (10yrs) and was telling me how he was extremely sneaky and constantly lying in the past etc. She can't believe a word that comes out of his mouth and doesn't have trust in her 8yr either because of what her oldest did. I told her that my 10yr was usually well behaved, didn't lie etc and on the rare occasion that he does, we handle with it with a punishment He didn't lose my trust forever and his behavior certainly doesn't influence how I treat my other kids.. She said, ';Yeah, that's what I thought when it came to my son too, but I was WRONG. I won't have it happen with my youndest...Never trust your kids...';
Well if you never trust them at any point in their life or judge them based on another's before, you're going to run into some issues in the future.

Anything told to me by my now ex MIL. When my daughter was a newborn she told me I was going to spoil my child by holding her. Mind you, she was a few hours old. She also told me to put whiskey on her pacifier to put her to sleep. My daughter was a preemie and needed to be fed every 4 hours, even if that meant waking up to do so. The nut told me not to bother waking up, and let the baby sleep. There's so many loopy and inane things she told me and no, I didn't follow her advice and lucky for my daughter and I, the nut is no longer a part of our lives.
';Put karo syrup in one ounce of water and feed it to your newborn to make them sleep through the night';. Seriously, what the french toast!!!?!?? You don't give a newborn karo and water like that! I've been given some nutty, off the wall advice but this one took the cake.
I trust my own instincts :)
To put rice/cereal in my daughter's milk to get her to sleep through the night - it's BS, no I did not listen - I did my research first! Also - to let kids cry it out - mine only cried when they had a reason and I don't like to ignore that! It goes against all of my mommy instincts! I don't ignore those!
I was told to always be strict with my kids to keep them in line. As they got older I realized that the more you try to control your kids the more they rebel and the best thing to do is not to control them but direct them in the right direction.
The worst advice i ever got was a man told me instead of paying for stitches or bandaids you should super glue the wounds closed. And no im not anywhere near stupid enough to superglue a wound closed instead of taking them for stitches.
ALWAYS believe what your kids say. that is like wrong because they could also lie. however, i strongly believe that you should believe them most of the time when the background evidence is pretty clear that your child is innocent.
'Hug him tight, tell him not to do so', whenever he shows tantrum, scream or cry for no reasons.
I tried and situations get worst. I don't believe in it anymore. It's all depend of types of kids.
My grandparents told me to smack my kids to ';put them in line';. I wanted to ask how that worked for them, seeing as between them they have 16 children and 5 max come around anymore.
The worst parenting advice i have ever received was when my mom told me not to have kids! This was because she has 3 kids now and never has time to herself. Actually it is quite funny!LOL
When my toddler used to bite, people said bite him back. I never did.
The worst i would say when someone told me ';Beat them with a frying pan'; :S
To let your baby cry it out, I would never do that.

What are some tips and advice for working at the cash register of a store?
I was just wondering, what are employers looking for when hiring a store clerk, what should you know before hand, what are some tips during interview? What are some tips and advice for working at the cash register of a store?
Be yourself, let them know your strengths but don't sound too arrogant about it. Let them know you are willing to work hard and learn new things (fast learner = a good thing to say). A little background about the company is excellent - it lets them know that you're really interested in working there. Smile, be confident and friendly. Just don't get nervous or anything, you'll be fine. What are some tips and advice for working at the cash register of a store?
just be polite and professional.
If I were hiring a person to work a register, I would look for these characteristics:
Honesty: I can't afford to have a thief working the cash register.
Good work ethic: I don't want someone who contributes to long lines because he/she takes five minutes on one customer.
Personableness: I would rather hire someone that creates a pleasant experience for customers than someone who doesn't seem to like the customers.
Competent in the area of arithmetic: He/she should know how to calculate change in his/her head.
Capable of being assertive: If the setting is fast food, he she at times must communicate with cooks and not be afraid to tell them what is needed.

Be yourself, let them know your strengths but don't sound too arrogant about it. Let them know you are willing to work hard and learn new things (fast learner = a good thing to say). A little background about the company is excellent - it lets them know that you're really interested in working there. Smile, be confident and friendly. Can anyone give me any advice of getting rid of sugar ants and fire ants in my home?
I have spread poison around my house and put little poison traps where they are suspected of coming in. they are getting worse and worse. no matter what i do, i can't get rid of them. i have pets that are sensitive to strong poisonings. i was not to happy when i put poison outside, but i was desperate. i am on a strict budget and i'm trying to save money, but my only option now is terminiex. can someone please give me some good ideas. serious answers only please. Can anyone give me any advice of getting rid of sugar ants and fire ants in my home?
The answerer who said Sevin is correct. It is a less hazardous pesticide than some of the others on the market. Also, sprinkling boric acid around the exterior foundation and window sills helps with roaches. I do not know if works with ants.
If you live in a building where you have access to the crawlspace under the house, spray there with one of the more powerful poisons. You should purchase a pump sprayer and concentrated pesticide to mix your own. Bayer and Spectracide are good reliable brands.
Wipe your kitchen counter tops down every night, and leave no water or dirty dishes in the sink. Your pets can be bitten by the fire ants. I have an old, very small poodle who I have to protect from fire ants so I know you are serious.
One weird place they may enter is through air conditioning registers. Check there. The most likely place is a kitchen window or around a door. Also, seal around under the sink pipes with caulk or expanding foam insulation (around $4 per can). Can anyone give me any advice of getting rid of sugar ants and fire ants in my home?
Believe it or not, Windex kills ants. After killing the visible ants in the house, spray a light mist around the area that they are coming in. You just have to remember to refresh the area after shampooing or washing. It really does work.
A friend lives in Florida and he put GRITS down. They carry them back to the next and the other ants eat them. The saliva causes the grits to swell and the ants die. He said it worked for him on fire ants.
Clean yur house - if they have no food, they won't come. Also, sprinkle sevin around your house (will need to reapply after every rain), and sprinkle cayenne pepper near the baseboards in your rooms.
You might need to get rid of your pets or move.
A professional woul dbe the best course of action. Some ants like pharoah ants can spread to other areas when pesticides are used. Its important to identify the type of ants so that a proper treatment strategy can be figured out. different ants require different treatments.
All ant treatments usually start with a perimeter treatment. You might try an outside inspection of the foundation to see if you can find any evidence of ants entering thru weepholes or cracks in the foundation.
Sometimes its best to bite the bullet and use a professional so that it doesnt cost you more in the long run. Also since safety is important you want someone to treat responsibly and most professionals have the training to do so.
P.S. there are cheaper solutions than terminix or orkin out there. Many companies will do one time treatments for 70-100 dollars

Can you please give me advice on filing taxes?
My wife and I were planning on filing jointly for the second year in a row. My wife insisted on doing the figures this year again. In 2006, I paid out more taxes than any other time in my life (when i was single I always received at least $500 from the tax return). But my wife (not to blame her in any way) found out that because her employer did not take out enough federal taxes we owe about $800! What? I am pretty devastated. SHOULD I LOOK INTO FILINING SEPARATE? IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY WE COULD COME OUT BETTER INDIVIDUALLY? WE MADE APPROXIMTALEY (COMBINED) $65, 000. PLEASE, SERIOUS, INFORMED FEEDBACK ONLY. ALSO, I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND A LOT ON FINDING OUT THAT WE STILL OWE A LOT. THANKS EVERYONE.Can you please give me advice on filing taxes?
You can certainly run the numbers both ways, filing separate and then jointly. However, I think you'll find that if you file separate, because you will be taxed higher at a lower income for single, that all of a sudden you will owe taxes and your wife will get a refund.
This doesn't take a lot of money to find out. If you use tax software, it will cost you nothing extra to run the calculations both ways.
In most cases, couples are better off filing jointly instead of separately. Can you please give me advice on filing taxes?
most likely you'll be better off filing together, unless yous and your wife's income are very different (ex. you made 55,000 and she made 10,000)
if you get your taxes done at H%26amp;R block they will actually compare filing options for you (MFJ vs. MFS) for no additional fee; so that's something you might want to consider
No, you will almost always pay MORE in taxes if you file separate returns.
Your situation isn't uncommon at all with married couples. It's especially true if one spouse makes significantly more than the other one does.
Married couples MUST fill out their Forms W4 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p524.pdf together and complete the Two-Earners/Multiple Jobs Worksheet on page 2 to ensure that sufficient tax is withheld from both paychecks.
If you have an $800 tax debt, you need to have an additional $16.00 withheld per week between you. If you are both paid bi-weekly, you could each opt to have an additional $16.00 withheld from your bi-weekly pay to cover that liability. You can split this up any way you wish, but the additional withholdings are required, either by reducing your withholding allowances or designating an additional withholding amount from your paychecks.
Try Turbo Tax. I've filed using that for the past 5 years and I love it. Its really easy to use. You can even download it. Around $50.

What are some good tips/advice for a first time home buyer?
I would like to know of any government grants, types of loans, and questions I should ask or be looking for a first time home buyer. Please help looking to purchase in 2 months. What are some good tips/advice for a first time home buyer?
Buying a house and making it your home is a dream almost everyone cherishes, irrespective of the geographical boundaries. The American Dream refuses to diminish in sheen and size despite the lingering subprime dark clouds. However, the current situation is a goldmine of opportunity of a smart and savvy first time home buyer or investor..Here are many first time home buyers programs available. You may start by calling the city Housing Office in your city or the county housing office in the county in which you reside. If these offices don't have the programs you are seeking they will be able to tell you what agency in their jurisdiction has them.
http://www.worldbestloans.com/homebuyerprogram.htm
First time home buyers can now opt for first time home buyers loans and buy their choice of home more easily. Moreover, simply because you are buying a home for the first time doesn't mean you need to opt for this type of loan. Most of these loans come with restrictions as well as strings attached. While these loans are perfect for some, they are a bad choice for most others. Once you have located the first time home buyers program and who operate it, that agency normally have a list of lenders, banks mortgage brokers or institutions that are authorize to administer the program. These agencies are normally listed on a pamphlet. What are some good tips/advice for a first time home buyer?
Find a Realtor. Try to get a referral from a friend as this is generally the best way to be sure you get someone with a reasonable track record. Don't sign anything till you have spent some time and have assurance that the Realtor is competent and diligent. You Realtor should be able to provide answers and connect you with the correct people to help you in all areas of your home purchase
get a pre-qual first to see what (loan) and how much you would qualify for

Does anyone have any tips/advice on how to get my 8 month old to eat meat?
I feel like I have tried everything but she will not eat meat - chicken, beef, turkey, lamb...it doesn't matter what she throws everything back out.
I've tried making my own food, using the commercial food. I've tried mixing it with vegetables and fruit. No matter what I try, she picks up on the taste and won't eat it.
I was going to try giving her fish, but my doctor told me no : (
Thankfully now that she can eat egg yolk, I've been able to mix a cooked egg yolk in with her cereal in the morning. But come lunch or dinner she won't eat the meat and I'm extremely concerned that she isn't getting enough protein.
Does anyone have any recipes or suggestions on how I can get her to eat some meat? She's still eating mashed foods - some lumps %26amp; texture but mostly smooth.
Please help!Does anyone have any tips/advice on how to get my 8 month old to eat meat?
If you're still doing babyfood try buying some of those jars of ';dinners'; that have meat and veggies/fruits or whatever else all mixed together.
If you are giving her regular food I have a TON of recipes that are insane good and involve cooking different meats with fruits, preserves, etc. - if you need some please get into contact with me and I will gladly share them!
Sometimes it helps to mix different tastes, such as fruits in with the meat to give it more of a sweet taste and it will sometimes also change the texture a little as some fruits are natural meat tenderizers.
If, however, there are other foods than just specifically meat - or specific types of meat that she refuses to eat or she gags/chokes when eating these certain things make sure to mention that to your doctor as this could be something other than a simple refusal.Does anyone have any tips/advice on how to get my 8 month old to eat meat?
Some people don't like meat, period. I wouldn't worry about it too much, as you can easily get enough protein from strictly vegan sources. Check out the following websites for information about getting protein without meat.

if she doesnt want the meat dont force it. maybe a pbj sandwhich light on the pb would be a way to get protein, if u are giving her bites of your meat try cooking it differently oneof my children will only eat mediam rare, juicey cuts. but, my son is like me everything must be dry as a bone. meat has a different taste when all the juice is cooked out. u could also try that pediasure drink to replace minerals she is not getting - i just read your addition and had to comment - for crying out loaud i cant stand doc's these days - they read it in a book so it has to be gold ... WRONG how many children in the world grow up with vegitarian parents? your baby nows better then anyone what she needs in this case. it is just like the case of children that like ashtrays, they like them because they get iron from the ashes. i am sure u are a good mom and need to relax and enjoy your baby.
Make sure it isn't giving her a tummy ache. Introduce it slowly-maybe a bite or two at a time.
as far as her not getting protein you can always substitute it with beans ,sweet potato or other means of vegetables maybe she is not ready. My kids didn't eat meat till they were 12 months and they are doing great now they are over the age of 5years.
First of all doctors do not have all the answers for your specific child. All infants and children are different. My first daughter couldnt stand meat until she was 2 years old. So she got plenty of protein in beans (I would make pintos or any other kind and mix it with sweet cornbread) but 8 months old is still young to eat meat. 8 month old babies have a hard enough time trying to digest foods, and meat is the hardest to digest. I wouldnt worry with it. Try getting the baby to eat a chicken finger. Or McDonalds Nuggets. My other 2 children only eat chicken and that is by their choice and they are fine. Use your own instinct.

What would your fly fishing advice be if you were standing next to me?
I bought my first cheap fly rod today and took it out to the Farmington river in Ct. My casting needs a lot of work but I love it already. I need all the advice I can get though, so if you were with me on my next trip what advice would you offer. What would your fly fishing advice be if you were standing next to me?
Read this book.... The Curtis Creek Manifesto.
written by Sheridan Anderson available for less than $10
online at www.amatobooks.com It is friendly, fast, enjoyable, and full of what you are looking for. You will read it over and over, and you will be a great flycaster soon. Happy Flycasting. What would your fly fishing advice be if you were standing next to me?
be carefull of how the line hits the water......you would want the line to go forward and drop/fall into the water, not to cast/aim for the water.......
ok well i would say you need a wt7 line to practice and weight forward would be a good start the two main types of line to start with are a floating line and an intermediate also if you can afford it buy the best lines you can afford as cheap ones are a false economy and most of all remember it takes time to learn fly fishing and read as many magazines books etc that way you will learn much quicker...for more info try the website on my profile as it highlights many tips for the beginner
Hello fellow fisherman. My advice on casting is not to rush it, you will not be an expert caster your first year. I was in the same boat you are in and i went out and bought books on flycasting and found that they were helpful. I went out in my back yard and laid a hulla hoop on the ground and stood back and casted my fly in to the hoop and then i would back up further and do it again till i could get in the hoop consistently. practice practice does make perfect.
i hope i helped you out, good luck and good fishing.

When you see me draw my arm back as if to cast, run like h--l.
Get a float tube and get out on a lake where you don't have to worry about a backcast!! The best way to practice

Umm advice blogs usually go only so far, and you must not realise it, but they need atleast 2 Guru's that are either teens or adults, doesn't matter, but the Guru's have to have different answering styles adn ways for solving problems. For the most part, you just have to find some people willing to be the Main people to answer, not just some random people, but people who have support behind them, and who have not only lived some of it, but seen it, done it, and know how to deal with it.
Don't let it be like those gay radio shows were they change the subject to avoid answering the question.
I dont know a name but the only thing that i would be worried about would be the fighting and arguments that teens like to fight. It happens all the time.

What is the best marriage advice you can give someone?
I have recently just gotten married and don't want it to end up like the 50% of the people out there. So i want to ask what is your secret to a long live of happiness together? What is the best marriage advice you can give someone?
Don't look at porn! lol No I could give better advice but that issue seems to pop up everywhere! What is the best marriage advice you can give someone?
I would highly recommend the US factor as an excellent course. This is for couples and goes through all the issues that couples face. I recommend that you go through it while you do not have the problems.
I think sometimes people wait until it is too late before seeking help for issues. I am not suggesting you will face problems but it is better to be prepared to cope with issues in advance.
I do believe they have a 30 day ';try before you buy'; policy so you could see if you think it is worth it's weight in gold.
I hope you have a long and happy marriage.
If you're a woman, PUT OUT. Give sex. GIVE. Even if you don't feel like it. Just DO IT. Do i need to repeat anything here?
If you're a man, PUT UP WITH HER CRAP. Ignore her. Don't take it personally. Get another life, join clubs. Do not argue with her or respond to any of her stupid stuff, just act like she's unimportant. Don't ever tell her that you love her a lot and want to screw her all the time, do not say that. Act like sex is no big deal and she's just someone you happen to know.
Watch what they want,be who they want you to be,make love only when they want it. LOL! Hey I'm kidding of course.
I guess the best advice is to be honest. If you can comfortably communicate without digging at each other..and have fun with communication, then you have it made. Love is an awesome thing that binds two hearts together forever. Good luck!
The advantage of delaying marriage and child-bearing, ideally, is to get established financially. Another advantage is to allow time for personal growth without the responsibility of a relationship.

Marriage is give and take, for sure. There are many things to do and not to do and one of those is... never go to bed angry! Stay up all night if you have to.
Blessings to you! Check out this link. It just may make you laugh AND think!

Too bad you didn't ask this question before you got married, I would have been able to give you better advice than I can now. My advice would have been don't do it.
Geez, sorry, I am just a little down on men right now.
Listen, talk, listen, talk..... respect, and little sweet nothings....
Treat your partner like your best, most precious friend in the world.
Talk, talk, and talk.

Best,
Heidi

What is the craziest diabetes advice you've ever heard?
I was told once that diabetes is really an allergy to sugar and should be taking benedryl for it :-)
---
BTW, urine tasting was how diabetes was diagnosed for hundreds of years and is still rather common among folk healers, especially in third world countries (where urinalysis strips are not readily available). What is the craziest diabetes advice you've ever heard?
My sister's friend was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and told by her quack of a doctor that she wasn't allowed to eat any fruit. The only carbs she was allowed to eat was 2 pieces of toast per day. I don't suppose it was the doctor's fault that the friend listened to his stupid advice and ignored all the info from the dietician. Still, how can you feed a baby if you aren't eating? It's not like it can jump out of the womb and raid the fridge! What is the craziest diabetes advice you've ever heard?
';OH, NO don't do that, sit here and rest a while!'; HUH?? we are told to do more exercising to help control the glucose, not sit on the chair and watch others do what we should be doing.
';Here, Orange Juice is good for everyone, drink it up'; told to me by a NURSE!!
';Do NOT drink that Coke!!! It has sugar in it!'; I was low and beginning to get the nasties and needed an instant recharge, but got the coke slapped to the ground.
';Only testing at the HOSPITAL can tell if you are diabetic or not'; As if the other blood labs aren't properly trained in blood draw and analysis.
';Use a urine stick to see what your glucose level is'; that is yesterday's results and does not tell you how high you are, just that you were high yesterday over 300!
';You cannot eat any protein or fatty foods'; Then what shall I eat? All plant derived foods are Carbohydrate foods which translates into Sugary foods in the digestive process.
My boyfriend's diabetic, and when he offered a bite of cake to someone they said ';no thanks, cant I get diabetes from you?';
Also, one time this girl asked me if we could have sex. And i said, ';why the hell not?'; and she goes ';well, you know, the calories from the sex could mess him up right? Make him pass out from his diabetes?';
The craziest advice i've ever heard is to mix raw white granulated sugar, pancake syrup, glucose syrup, and baklava in a pint of whiskey and guzzle it down. That's a suicide solution if i've ever heard one.
A woman I used to work with, whose mother and husband are both type 1, told me that I could eat as much angel food and rice crispie bars as I wanted. AND-I had a gp who told me my diabetes was cured because my A1c was under 7%. Cured? I wish!
I've had people say that I cannot have ANY sugar. Yeah, ok! When my sugar is 51 and I'm shaky, you need to get the HELL out of my way and let me eat!
that cinnamon can cure diabetes and or stabiles blood sugars
people saying you should take your insulin.....when you're low.
Yikes! That's downright scary advice. Supposed ';Know-It-Alls'; tell diabetics to eat some hard candy when their sugar is low %26amp; they get a bad spell. That is very bad advice. When a diabetic is in the situation, they should eat protein, which will level out their sugar. (ex: Baked chicken, turkey, lean beef, in between two pieces of bread, depending on the number of calories they're on)

What is the best parenting advice you have?
For children of all ages. Any advice at all.
~ I think mine would be to get video, lots of it. Because children grow up so much faster than planned. What is the best parenting advice you have?
Mine would be to do what you think is right for your kids, not what everyone else tells you is right. What is the best parenting advice you have?
Each is Different and each have their own ways. First you must listen. When they are sad or their feelings are hurt, or proud and laughing... Give a Hug. Tell them you Love them every chance you get. Teach them Please and Thank you.. Be Honest with them, Be Patient... Laugh at the joke if it's not funny. When they holler Watch me respond like it was better than anything you seen in your life. When you say ';NO'; Explain why and be forward and clear. Hold their hands, play with them if they feel like playing. Most important - Treasure the Memories for a Life Time.
I say take lots of pictures .I just recently developed over 30 rolls of film.It was awsome to see my kids little again!!! I also have kept things the kids have made and given me,I have a hope chest.
To hug and kiss them as much as possible, tell them how much you love them. I love the video idea. Read to them. And just enjoy them as much as you can because they dont stay little long.
Be consistent, be firm and be loving. Keep to a routine for the most part and remember to acknowledge good behavior and not just focus on bad behavior.
Above all.......be prepared to be flexible. You WILL do some of those things you SWORE you'd NEVER do. And it's OK.
Tell them always the truth according to their age. Your word will be the law for them, they will know that coming to you, they will get the truth.
DONT SPOILE THEM
they did that to me and its not good bcuz then they'll get use to getting every thing and when one day u say no to sum thing theyll get mad truxh me i'm like dat!
Consistency and Godly influence! Also, keep up with their baby book, because you think you'll remember everything, but you'll soon find out you don't remember what happened yesterday, much less 8 years ago when they were 4 mos. old!!!! Take lots of pictures!
I think i would have a lot of physical games for my kids, like base ball, basket ball, and my favorites, i would love to see my daughter play soccer, and my son football. i really love football, that's the game my boyfriend plays, i love him more for that. Don't take my word for it, you can have your kids play the games you have passion for, you wouldn't even mis any of their school games.

Can anyone give me an advice on making a trip to Germany more economical?
Hello, I live in US, and I am planning on visiting Germany with my friend. We are looking to spend $1500 ~ $2000 per person, and I've seen the prices on round trip air tickets and are way beyond our limit. The prices of round trip in February is around $430, but in July the prices jumped to $1130.
Does anybody know how to make this trip in our budget? We are only 21 years old and are still in college... %26gt;.%26lt;Can anyone give me an advice on making a trip to Germany more economical?
so go in February! or plan a very short visit in July...would be a drag, though, to spend more than half your budget on airfare. But if you do go in peak season, supply %26amp; demand forces the price of the tix up--the airlines can fill those seats at $1130, so they do!
Right now, anywhere in the Euro zone is verrrry expensive for us poor dollar earners. Why not go to Mexico or South America instead? a lot more bang for your buck! Can anyone give me an advice on making a trip to Germany more economical?
Buying your plane tickets 2 weeks or more ahead of time brings down ticket prices considerably. If you have some flexibility on the dates, always check numerous dates. In general, the %26gt;cheapest%26lt; days to travel on are:--%26gt;Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday%26lt;--. The more options you give the airlines, the cheaper they are willing to sell the tickets.
I found some cheap flight tickets for......Atlanta, GA to San Juan, PR ........4 days stay with hotel at $313 per person, it was awesome. Even found some Berlin, germany tickets for $1,390.....price fluctuates a lot though...
Found it on this website:
http://www.ytbtravel.com/RobertFoster
If you could depart to Germany before July 1, sometimes it's slightly cheaper, because a couple of airlines don't start full peak-season pricing until July 1. Try http://www.bookingbuddy.com and student ticket consolidators http://www.statravel.com and http://www.travelcuts.com and http://www.studentuniverse.com -- FRA, MUC, and DUS are usually cheapest, but also check HAM, CGN, BER, and STR if you could. Depending where exactly in Germany, a major neighboring might turn up much cheaper flights, such as AMS, BSL, or PRG.
Also, where exactly will you depart from? I ask because there are 2 low-cost airlines serving some US and Canadian cities straight to Germany. I'll check back to see if you added details.

Indian Fry Bread
Indian Tacos
Fry Bread Dessert
Indian Fry Bread
2 cups self-rising flour
About a tbsp. baking powder
About a cup of milk or water
Mix the flour and baking powder together. Add milk or water and stir to make a stiff dough but workable with your hands (not sticky). Knead together a few times till dough is smooth. Pinch off a piece of the dough about the size of a small rubber ball (for large piece of Fry Bread). The old way is to flour your hands and flatten between the palms until the size of a small dessert plate to about 1/4 inch thick. If this is difficult for you to do, put the dough on a floured surface and flatten with palm of hands or roll with a rolling pin to form about a 6-inch circle. Keep your hands floured as you work with the dough. I use an 8-inch iron skillet filled with Canola oil or another good vegetable oil to fry the dough. Fry until the dough is a light golden brown and turn to fry both sides. Drain on paper towels.
Indian Tacos
Make Fry Bread above. Brown one pound of ground beef and remove grease. Add one package of Taco Seasoning Mix following directions on package. Spoon taco meat mixture on top of Fry Bread, add grated cheddar cheese (or taco cheeses), chopped onion, chopped tomatoes, chopped lettuce and salsa on top. You can vary this with your favorite toppings such as adding sour cream. A lot of Indian cooks use chili instead of the taco seasoned meat.
Fry Bread Dessert
You can also make delicious desserts with Fry Bread. There are several variations here or experiment with your own creations.
1. Make Fry Bread and sprinkle with powdered sugar, honey or sugar and cinnamon.
2. Top with your favorite fruit pie filling. Top with whipped cream.
3. Top with fresh cut up fruits, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, etc. with a little sugar added. Then top with whipped cream. Can i please have some advice from some Native Americans?

Here's a recipe for Tsalagi (Cherokee) bean bread that's fun:
Bean Bread
(Tsu-Ya-Ga)
鈥? cup of cornmeal
鈥⒙?cup flour
鈥? tsp baking powder
鈥? tbsp sugar
鈥? cups milk
鈥⒙?cup melted shortening
鈥? beaten egg
鈥? tbsp honey
鈥? cups drained brown beans
Mix all of these ingredients, except beans, thoroughly, and then fold in the beans. Pour into greased, heated pan. Bake at 450 until brown (usually 30 minutes or so)
And this is my favorite fry bread recipe:
Fry Bread
鈥?3 cups all-purpose flour
鈥?1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
鈥?pinch of salt
鈥?1-1/3 cups warm water
鈥?vegetable oil for frying
鈥?honey
Combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Add the water and knead the dough until soft. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured board until 1/4'; thick. Cut out 4'; rounds. Heat 1';-2'; of oil in a saucepan. Fry the bread until puffed. Turn bread when edges are brown. own on both sides. Serve with honey.
And finally, a recipe for grape dumplings that are delicious:
Grape Dumplings
鈥? cup flour
鈥? 陆 tsp baking powder
鈥? tsp sugar
鈥⒙?tsp salt
鈥? tbsp shortening
鈥⒙?cup grape juice
Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and shortening. Add juice and mix into stiff dough. Roll dough very thin on floured board and cut into strips 陆'; wide (or roll dough in hands and break off pea-sized bits). Drop into boiling grape juice and cook for 10 - 12 minutes.
These are from an old cookbook that I used to own and lost. But then I found the recipes online about a year or so ago. Enjoy!
I'm native american and I would like to know how to make all that too!
You could probably find all that out by yourself on the web though.

Can anyone give me good advice on how to make an outstanding good-tasting steak using a pan-fry method?
It's winter and too cold to grill outdoors. I'd love to know how to make a steak taste great but using the pan-fry method. Include any suggestions on preping too if you know some great techniques because I've never done that, I always just throw it on (after tenderizing a tad with punctures). I feel I can do better to make a great-tasting steak. I normally use ribeyes. Thanks. Can anyone give me good advice on how to make an outstanding good-tasting steak using a pan-fry method?
The heavier the pan the better....a cast iron grill pan would be best if you have it. Make sure the pan is smoking hot so you can sear the steak. Don't keep moving it around. Do one side and then the other and that's it. I don't season my steak until just before it's done. Can anyone give me good advice on how to make an outstanding good-tasting steak using a pan-fry method?
I just use a cast iron skillet, a stick of butter,
sautee onions, green peppers and sliced mushrooms,
and season with garlic, pepper, salt and cajun seasoning
You can also marinade the meat first
a little papaya, beer or yogurt are good tenderizing marinades.
Do not cook too fast, if you want it a little crisper you can broil it in the oven for a few minutes.
pan frying...first you need a nice heavy bottomed skillet...cast iron is awesome....take the steak out of the frig about 15-20 minutes before cooking to let get close room temp....heat pan with veg oil....higher smoking pt.....until fiery hot...just to the smoke....season steak...i use grill seasoning...place in pan...DO NOT MOVE AROUND...you want a sear...develop a crust...depending on thickness....say 1 inch thick...4 1/2-5 minutes on first side....maybe 4 on the next for med rare...nice and pink in the middle....take steak out let rest 7-10 minutes...slice thin against the grain....or for single serving....plate...good luck....
tbsp olive oil in cast iron skillet, heat til it smokes.
I like to rub a little soy sauce on meat along with majoram and corse black pepper.
Once pan smokin place steak in for about 2 min each side till it is kind of crusty.
Do not smash as you will release all the juices
If a thick steak and needs to cook a little more, I place it in a preheated oven a 350 for about 5 min. or less on a oven safe plate..
1 1/2 in steak will then be med rare to med.
Walla nummy steak.

You need cast iron, heat, and a really good oven mitt to make the perfect steak- but this really is perfect.
Preheat oven to 500 degrees F (a very hot oven produces a juicy interior). Place cast-iron skillet in oven. When oven reaches 500 degrees temperature, remove pan from oven and place on range over high heat (the pan and the handle will be extremely hot - be careful).
Immediately place steaks in the middle of hot, dry pan (if cooking more than one piece of meat, add the pieces carefully so that they are not touching each other). Cook 1 to 2 minutes without moving; turn with tongs and cook another 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat and put the cast iron skillet with the steaks in it into the oven. Cook an additional 3 to 5 minutes, depending on thickness of steaks and degree of doneness you like. When the steaks are crusty-charred and done to your liking, remove from the pan, cover loosely with aluminum foil and let rest 5-10 minutes before serving. During this time the meat continues to cook (meat temperature will rise 5 to 10 degrees after it is removed from the oven) and the juices redistribute
.
I usually make steak in a pan....the trick is not to cook it too long (depending on how well-done you like it)...i like mine to have some pink in the middle.
I season the steak (I use a mix of salt, pepper, paprika, dry mustard), then get the pan really hot before putting the steak in - it is hot enough once you can only hold your hand just above the bottom of the pan for no longer than a few seconds. Then you put the steak (usually the fat from the steak is enough, but sometimes you can add olive oil or cooking spary). I cook mine for about 2 minutes each side, then immeidately take the steak out of the pan and put on a cool plate, let it sit for 5 minutes before cutting it....if you cut it when its really hot, all the juices will run out....
I like to take the same pan off the burner, add a pat of butter and some sliced mushrooms and/or onions, return it to medium heat, then a couple dashes of worchestire sauce and saute them until done...and top the steak.
Yumm!
