What is the best advice for using a metz flash with a canon 5d on the ETTL mode?

Is there a little sneeky trick you can do to get the best results? (obviously other than tilting the head and upping the iso to 400.

What do you think? What is the best advice for using a metz flash with a canon 5d on the ETTL mode?
You have to be very careful, some of the older flashguns, particularly Metz, had a very high trigger voltage of several 100's of Volts, this would blow the circuitry in the camera to pieces. So please check the trigger voltage anything above 5 Volts is suspect. You can measure it with a Voltmeter (just let the flash charge up and measure the voltage across the trigger pins that connect to the camera) or just enter the model of flash into a search engine the official trigger voltage will be on the spec sheet. It needs to be below 5 Volts to be safe.
